BUSINESS PROGRAM
Using "Rich Web" to reproduce all the sophisticated functionality of Manhattans client/server product - ahead of its time
Raindrop took the decision to skip a generation and go straight to "rich web" or second-generation web technology prompted by interest from the US in the early 2000's. Steve explains the challenges this presented and how Manhattan became the only property ERP system that can claim to have a second-generation web product, giving Manhattan a big technical step ahead of its competitors.
Steve Vatidis, Group Managing Director, Raindrop Information Systems Ltd
TECHNICAL PROGRAM
SOA and Business Process Orchestration
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) has become the new de facto standard for designing and creating reusable business rules and logic that can be shared enterprise wide in a distributed manner. If SOA is well-executed, its implementations will bridge the wide gap between the IT and the business and, in parallel, implement the robust reuse of existing technology and application code with unprecedented flexibility and cost effectiveness. However, the rapid adoption of distributed cross-platform SOA architecture fundamentals can lead to unmanageable complexities for IT. Without an adequate means of control, SOA can quickly lead to trouble. Business Process Orchestration (BPO) with SOA must be introduced into all IT portfolios to provide that control. The failure to implement BPO on top of SOA will result in unmanageable architecture where a distributed mess of software components will offer poor business support.
This session will show how Uniface Flow can provide BPO "umbrella" on top of the SOA implementation within existing Uniface applications and beyond.

VAR Program
The SaaS (Software as a Service) model is dramatically changing the world of application vendors. The great benefits that the SaaS model has for the end customers of VAR’s make this model a dominating market driver. The question for the Uniface VAR’s is: will you benefit from this and how can Compuware help you to succeed? Please join Aad van Schetsen in a discussion about VAR Business and SaaS.
Aad van Schetsen, Vice President Uniface, Compuware
Introduction to RIA
This presentation will describe Rich Internet Applications and common approaches to deliver them. It will explain the difference between Web 1.0 & 2.0 applications, showing an example of the how rich web controls can be used with Uniface to deliver a RIA solution.
Jason Huggins, Uniface Subject Matter Expert, Compuware
Budget Neutral Uniface Migrations
A number of companies are still working on old Uniface versions. This has consequences for both their opportunities as well as for the support given by Compuware.
"Budget Neutral Migrations" offers the opportunity to migrate their 'old' Uniface environment to a new environment. In order to make this shift the Uniface applications are outsourced for a fixed period at the exact same cost rate as the company is paying in the current situation. During this period the system is both maintained and migrated. The duration is depending on the underlying ROI. Afterwards, once the company in sources the environment most of the time, the maintenance cost will be lower than before.

Keynote - Uniface 9.4 RIA – Web 2.0 Development as easy as Client/Server
This session demonstrates the functionality that will be delivered in Uniface 9.4 beta, including the widgets (based on DOJO), partial page updates (no more page refreshes), out-of-the-box data communication between browser and server, browser-side syntax checking, and error handling. The demonstration also shows how to build a Dynamic Server Page (DSP) component, the new component type introduced for Web 2.0 development, and how Proc code is used to change the look, behavior, and layout of a page dynamically.
The session explains the approach, chosen by the Uniface Lab, to combine the flexibility and extendibility of existing technology, like (X) HTML, CSS and DOJO, with the power and simplicity of the Uniface development paradigm. A must see!

Closing keynote - Uniface and state of the art web technologies
The web has become the fastest developing area in information technology and within a decade it has evolved into a vibrant, evolving ecosystem. In this keynote I will give insight on how we got where we currently are and more importantly where the web is heading towards.
The Dojo Toolkit, being one of the major JavaScript libraries aims to help developers shorten development cycles, ensure business with sustainability, maintainability, resulting in a higher ROI. You will get a detailed, example-driven overview of what currently is possible with Dojo (complex layouts, data, charting, forms. i18n, a11y), what new upcoming standards are being proposed and how the Dojo Toolkit helps to deliver high quality client side applications.
